austin's blogWelcomeThis site started off as a small selection of photos from the archives at LAT Photo. I work for Haymarket Media, of whom LAT are part of. My job has nothing to do with the archive but having kindly been given permission to use the photos it is to tempting to not keep on searching! The archive contains about 12 million motoring images from the late 1800s to the present day so it may take me some time to get through them all... If you can't see what you are after either get in touch or contact LAT themselves, (see the ordering prints page for more info). If you do get in touch with LAT please mention me, I get a very small commission from any sales and I am hoping that this will cover the hosting costs of the site. The images themselves come from a variety of sources, Autocar magazine, The Motor magazine, Motorsport magazine and Autosport magazine. If there are cars that you recognise and have information about please do leave comments, (they appear instantly if you are registered, if not I have to approve them, this stops spam.) So far the the photos have been sorted by events, cars and now people. There is also a mystery car page. Hopefully these areas will grow as more information comes to light. 0 comments Hubert Adams in Ards TTA message from a visitor to the site who has emailed the photo and the little information he has... i have a photo of a distant relative Hubert Adams driving a car of unknown make (car number 49) at a northern ireland TT and wonder if you can provide me with any further information. If anyone knows anymore please get in touch either by the contact form or by leaving a comment below. 2 comments 1936 Austin Twin Cam
This photo is from a small box marked A - Z of cars and is a copy negative taken from a glass plate so the quality isn't great. Prints could be done, please get in touch via the contact page of you want a print, (including the page number 163). 0 comments 1936 Austin Twin Cam

There are two ways of finding a specific event, either click on the year that it occured or click on the event name. In either case you will get the option to filter the results. The photos are added and updated on a weekly basis so things will change. The number in brackets is the number of photos in that category. YearEvent

When Dickason later said it was all exactly the same as the winning Davis/Marsh 1930 Brooklands 500 racecar he was misquoted as having the actual car, but he told me not so. It's been hard to convince people here otherwise because of the "it must be true, it was in the paper" syndrome. 0 comments Some clarity on TT Ulsters from Chris GouldThere seems to be some confusion. Unlike Frazer Nash cars Austin did not refer to their cars as replicas, so if you see a car referred to as an Ulster or TT replica it is a copy and not the genuine article. It should be born in mind that there are two types of TT cars. The 1929 cars had long scuttles with the petrol tank underneath as on a Chummy and they had the short pre 1928 type radiator. The chassis was based on the 1929 cars with the brakes coupled for the first time by fitting two front brake cables. The crankshaft was a circular web one still with an inch and an eighth crank pins. 0 comments |
