The event was run over an out-and-back course. Cars turned around the barrel (seen to the left in the Arthur Mallock photo) with the 'Keep Left' notice and ran back to the start. This meeting ran in spite of extra stringent petrol rationing which forbade any private motoring for pleasure. The Police apparently spent hours in the car parks recording registration numbers and trying to follow up with court action. Most competitors hired lorries to carry their racers (which was legal)and filled them up with family and friends, they ran their racers on alcohol which wasn't rationed. AM ran on Methanol and saved-up basic ration according the 'The Lone Furrow'
