Bugatti on unknown 1922 event![]()
Reference number: Autocar Glass Plate A569, This photo is from the LAT Photographic archive, which is part of Haymarket who I work for. Please see the "Ordering Prints" page if you would like prints stating the reference above but please mention me, (Austin Harris). |
This is a well-known Type 23 that was certainly extant not so long ago. The T23 has the longer 2.7 metre chassis. A T13 is a two metre chassis and the T22 uses a 2.4metre layout. It looks surprisingly free of the knocks and dings that alloy bodywork tends to acquire.
This car was much photographed when new in the hands of Major Lefrere, the sales manager of the London agents.
I think it likely that he is at the wheel here, and that the event is the Essex County & Southend AC hillclimb
Laindon on 27 May 1922. (Note similarity of competition no to that on the GN 'Kim' at this event. In the
background an Armstrong-Siddeley (Howego?), a Silver Hawk, and two Alvises, the one at centre rear almost
certainly that of Maitland Keddie, a local stalwart of the Club.
